Born in Dudhpokhari, Lamjung, Bhupendra Gurung is a genius of Nepali kung fu, who has left a remarkable mark in the field of martial arts in Nepal. He contributed for a long time as the General Secretary of Nepal Uma Kung Fu Association. Bhupendra, currently the vice-president of the association, has not only won international medals, but has also acted as a judge in world-class competitions. Although Bhupendra’s childhood was spent in Lamjung, seeing his keen intellect and interest in sports, his family decided to bring him up in Kathmandu.

After enrolling in Beginners Academy in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu, his educational journey began to flourish. The sporting atmosphere there attracted him to the sport. From 1998, he started learning USU and within three years he was able to show his ability in the national competition. Bhupendra’s name came into limelight after he started winning medals in national competitions. 

After this, he continued to achieve success by participating in various national kung fu competitions. His professional sports career has a series of medals success at national and international level. Bhupendra, who won a gold medal in the National Uma Kung Fu Championship in 2015, also won a gold medal in the World Martial Arts Games held in Germany in 2018. Similarly, in 2022, he won the gold medal in the European Championship of Uma Kung Fu.

At the 6th Annual Bucks County Winter Martial Arts Championship held in the US in December 2024, he won a gold medal in Traditional Fums and a Silver medal in Open Forums Taichi. 347 athletes from 22 martial arts clubs participated in this tournament. So, in October 2024, he won two silver medals at the 15th Golden Dragon Championship in California. After winning medals in two competitions in America, he was honored with 4,000 US dollars in cash by two separate organizations. 

In the US UNL Box County Winter Market Arts in the United States, he defeated the frequency and opinion of Open Flame of the Trial Famm in the Tadisonal Fame in the United States in the United States. Thirty-three players were represented by 22 Martial Arts Clubs in this competition. However, at October 2008, he won two silver medals in the 15th Golden Dragon Championship in California.

Bhupendra has not only played the role of a player but also played the role of referee in an equally important way. He served as a judge in the National Uma Kung Fu Championship in 2016 and 2018 and acted as the chief judge in the 14th National Kung Fu Championship in Lucknow, India in 2022. In 2023, he also held the role of a judge in another competition held in the UK.

Bhupendra has also participated in various international seminars to enhance his skills. In 2016, he participated in the Kung Fu Instructor Seminar, and in 2023, he participated as a Grand Master in the ‘Gathering of the World Grand Masters 2023’ held in Britain.

Vice President of Nepal Uma Kung Fu Association He is the President of Nepal Tribal Sports Association. He is also the Nepal President of the International Martial Arts Corporation and is the National Kung Fu Referee of Nepal and has received the Fourth Dan of Kung Fu.
